Blundercheck Chess Club (formerly HRCA) is Hampton Roads' most spirited, most welcoming, most musically inclined chess club. We believe chess should be fun, accessible, and every now and then accompanied by distorted guitars. The club is directed by Benjamin Blundercheck — frontman of Benjamin Blundercheck & The Poisoned Pawn, a chess rock band that brings the noise to select club events.

Early in the evening, things can get lively — class sessions with discusssion, or possibly music, conversation, and the general energy of a room full of chess players who are genuinely happy to be there. Walk-in casual chess time is exactly that: casual. But we deeply respect the game, and when it's time for the Weekly Tournament, or any other serious activity, the room quiets down. No exceptions. The chess always gets the attention it deserves.

Whether you've been playing since childhood or just learned how the horsey moves, you belong here. Our community spans absolute beginners, competitive rated players, kids, seniors, and everyone in between. The only requirement is that you show up ready to play.
