Blundercheck Chess Club (formerly HRCA) is Hampton Roads' most chaotic, most welcoming, most musically inclined chess club. We believe chess should be fun, accessible, and occasionally accompanied by distorted guitars. The club is directed by Benjamin Blundercheck — frontman of Benjamin Blundercheck & The Poisoned Pawn, the chess rock band that performs at every Grand Prix event.

Early in the evening, things can get lively — music, conversation, and the general energy of a room full of chess players who are genuinely happy to be there. Walk-in casual chess time is exactly that: casual. But we deeply respect the game, and when it's time for the Club Challenge, the Weekly Tournament, or any other serious activity, the room quiets down. No exceptions. The chess always gets the attention it deserves.

Whether you've been playing since childhood or just learned how the horsey moves, you belong here. Our community spans absolute beginners, competitive rated players, kids, seniors, and everyone in between. The only requirement is that you show up ready to play.

Attending club is always free. Casual chess is always free. We're building out our full event series — including the Blundercheck Grand Prix — to bring chess rock shows, live music, and community prizes to the Hampton Roads area.
